Hello! I am Kami Land, Fine Arts Department Co-Chair and Visual Art Instructor at St. Michaels Catholic Academy. I obtained my Bachelors of Fine Arts degree, with an emphasis in Art Education, from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and have had the fortunate opportunity to teach at SMCA since 2005.

My teaching philosophy is based on the belief that art education should be a vital component in the development of every citizen.  Art can give students a language to investigate their unique individuality, think independently and build relationships with members of the local, national and global community. As the world becomes more visually stimulating, art education assists with learning to critically analyze and navigate through the complexities.

My goal is to give students the opportunity and tools to comprehend their visual world, derive personal meaning and succeed through visual self-expression. The visual arts at SMCA offer multiple levels of stimulating courses of study where students learn to develop their understanding of aesthetics and critical analysis. I embrace students with all levels of artistic training and strive to offer an environment that is safe, supportive, encouraging and creative!
