The mission of the Learning Center is to promote skills in self-motivation that emphasize setting goals, taking risks, monitoring performance, making adjustments when necessary and assuming responsibility for oneself. In addition, the Learning Center provides reasonable accommodations to students with disabilities to ensure their full participation in the academic programs. The Learning Center is a resource for all students to develop effective learning and academic strategies.
TRANSITION TO COLLEGE
- Provides college preparatory support services
- Encourages students to utilize research-based learning strategies to improve their academic performance.
- Offers reasonable accommodations to students with a diagnosed disability.
- Reviews documentation according to national standards approved by the College Board as students prepare for standardized tests such as the SAT, PSAT and AP exams
- Fosters independent learning which is integrated into the college preparatory curriculum
- Encourages students to learn how to become more effective decision-makers, problem-solvers and self-advocates.
Specialized support services include, but are not limited to;
- Counsel students, coordinate academic support and provide academic advising
- Provide academic assistance with compensatory strategies such as organizational skills, note taking skills, memory strategies, textbook reading skills, report writing skills, test preparation and test-taking skills.
- Coordinate request for diagnostic testing for learning-disabled students.
- Provide referrals for tutoring.
- Provide disability management counseling.
ACCESSING ACADEMIC ACCOMMODATIONS
In order to request academic accommodations, please send a copy of your most recent testing to the Director of the Learning Center. This submission officially begins the review process. Once the review is complete, the parent will be contacted to review the Accommodation Approval Plan.
